NYP and Samsung to Accelerate F&B Digitalisation
Published on 24 Oct 2017

Dear Media Friends,

As part of the Smart Nation Initiative, the Singapore government has set a target for half of all Food and Beverage (F&B) outlets to adopt digital solutions by 2020. Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and Samsung Asia Pte Ltd (Samsung) are entering a partnership to accelerate F&B digitalisation on three fronts: manpower development, technology integration and innovative solutions.

The two partners will seal their intent in a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Tuesday, October 24 2017, witnessed by Mr Ng Cher Pong, Chief Executive Officer, SkillsFuture Singapore.

As part of this collaboration, a Hackathon to develop new solutions for the F&B industry will be a key initiative, led by NYP's Asian Culinary Institute (ACI). The ACI is a specialist centre for professionals in the culinary industry to pursue quality continuing education and training.

The Hackathon will see NYP students, industry professionals and developers come together to brainstorm on potential new technologies or innovations that can help Singapore reach this goal by 2020. Global technology giant Samsung is spicing up the mix with its rich solutions in business intelligence, wearable solutions as well as technological expertise.

Samsung will also equip NYP's teaching restaurant and café, L'Rez and L'Café, to be a test-bed for innovative solutions. This would ensure that NYP students are well-prepared for the digital workplace and learn to adapt technologies for specific business requirements.

We invite you and your cameraman/photographer to join us at the event.
