NYP students’ films and animations an integral part of NDP 2019
Published on 01 Aug 2019

Dear Media Friends,

From impressive animations to short films that tell a rich and moving story, Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) students’ productions are an integral part of the National Day Parade (NDP) 2019. What’s more, for the first time, it’s feet to the ground as the Polytechnic sends a 45-strong student and staff contingent to the parade.

Over the last few months, NYP’s School of Interactive & Digital Media (SIDM) and School of Business Management (SBM) students have been working on spectacular visuals for the large screens at the Padang. Their work will complement the performances and even set the stage for the grand entrance of the military tanks on the Padang ground. It is NYP’s most significant contribution to the main show this year, as its students’ short films are now part of the main parade.

They are among over 100 staff and students who will have a part to play in NDP 2019. SBM students continue with the behind-the-scenes video while student nurses have been roped in as first aiders.

We invite you to join us on 1 August 2019 to meet the students and staff and find out about their NDP 2019 experience. Please see below for more details of their involvement.

Description

School of Business Management (SBM)’s short films for NDP 2019

2019 not only marks the NDP’s return to the Padang but also the return of NYP SBM students’ works on the NDP screens! The last time SBM students produced visual content for the actual NDP was back in 2015 when the parade was last held in Padang.

This year, 12 students from the Diploma in Mass Media Management have been working tirelessly since May to create a visual bang at the NDP! Five short films totalling close to six minutes will feature key parade participants, the SAF, Home Team and more.

School of Business Management (SBM)’s behind-the-scenes video for NDP Appreciation Function

For the last five years and counting, SBM students have produced behind-the-scenes videos for parade participants at the NDP Appreciation Function. This year, they are documenting the journey from the weekly Saturday practice sessions at Kranji and Nee Soon camps to the parade at Padang.

School of Interactive & Digital Media (SIDM)’s visuals for NDP 2019

SIDM students are working on captivating on-screen graphics to complement NDP performances for the ninth year! They are also the only polytechnic students working on such content for NDP 2019.

The 22 Diploma in Motion Graphics & Broadcast Design students have been working closely with Multimedia Director Royston Tan since February on visuals for four segments of the parade. They were given the creative freedom to come up with ideas based on given themes and pitch them to the NDP Committee.

Unlike the non-narrative visual effects created by past students, this batch of NYP students have created five videos that creatively tell the story of Singapore. Totalling over five and a half minutes, they will take the audiences through the past, present and future of Singapore.

School of Health & Social Sciences (SHSS) First Aiders

NYP’s nursing students will be participating in the NDP for the third consecutive year. The students’ role at NDP may not be as visible as other NYP students, but they are equally important. 49 Diploma in Nursing students will be working alongside the Singapore Armed Forces medical team at the Padang stands, keeping a watchful eye for signs of medical conditions among the spectators. Armed with the skills and knowledge gained from classes and clinical attachments, they are ever ready to respond to any medical situations at NDP 2019.

Nanyang Polytechnic Marching Contingent

NDP 2019 will see NYP marching during the Parade & Ceremony segment for the first time in history. It is also the only Institute of Higher Learning with a marching contingent for NDP this year.

NYP’s first ever marching contingent comprises 16 staff and 29 students across NYP’s various schools and departments. Since the beginning of May, the contingent has spent almost the whole of every Saturday practicing so as to put up a good show for all.
