Course objectives
This course is designed to enhance cultural awareness and competency among social service professionals, striving for excellence in service when working with diverse populations. Participants will engage in hands-on practical discussions within a safe space, focusing on understanding and effectively working with clients and communities from various backgrounds, including different races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and more. By adopting reflective and reflexive activities, group discussions, and tools such as the ‘Between the Layers’ conversational deck, the course promotes meaningful dialogue and learning, ensuring service excellence in every interaction.
Course description
Upon successful completion of the course, the participants will be able to: Understand cultural diversity including cultural background, values, beliefs of clients to enhance cultural awareness and achieve excellence in service Reflect on personal beliefs and attitudes to foster inclusivity
Utilise tools to facilitate open discussions and promote cultural understanding Understand and apply the cultural competency framework to foster inclusive social work practice
