Driven by the rise of new technologies and a growing sustainability-minded public, the demand for smart offices with a low carbon footprint has accelerated, transforming how businesses manage their offices and teams. This trend offers a substantial opportunity for office buildings to position themselves as pioneers in sustainable innovation, leading the way towards achieving net-zero emission targets.

Led by Dr. Lim Teck Beng, Soh Yi Lang, and Kok Fook Kee, NYP’s engineering team integrated advanced smart systems into office spaces that dynamically adjust in real time to enhance employee comfort and cut energy use. Key features include a smart lighting system that automatically switches off lights after 5 minutes of inactivity and an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) sensor to maintain optimal working conditions.

Beyond hardware and design, the team developed a mobile app and remote dashboard, enabling SICK to monitor room occupancy and manage meeting room availability efficiently. This innovation reduces energy waste through automated lighting control while the IAQ monitoring supports a healthier, more productive workplace.

Moreover, the implementation of these smart office technologies facilitates predictive maintenance and operational insights, enabling SICK to optimise resource use and reduce operational costs, also allowing them to make informed decisions that lead to more sustainable and efficient operations by leveraging real-time data.
