Year 1

Personal Career Strategy 1 (15 hours)

Discover the career options related to your field of study and pick up skills that will help you succeed in work and life. You will learn how to make decisions on your career goals and plan for your future.

 

Understanding Singapore 1 – A Closer Look (15 hours)

In Singapore, anyone regardless of their background or age, can play a part in making it a safe, vibrant and sustainable place to live in. By understanding the role that you can play in this country and its dynamic social environment, you will be empowered to become a participative citizen. A close-up look at the needs and challenges faced by the various communities in Singapore will also enable you to appreciate the importance of unity and diversity within our society.

 

Fitness for Life (30 hours)

Stay active by choosing from this list of sport and wellness activities. We offer a wide range of options, from aerobics and yoga to frisbee and basketball. You will get to try out a new sport, keep healthy and fit while making new friends. 

Year 2

Personal Career Strategy 2 (15 hours)

Take ownership of your career through conscious effort to plan, prepare and commit to your education and career goals. Start developing your career portfolio and networking with industry mentors. Recognise the importance of lifelong learning and skills mastery in developing career resilience in a VUCA work environment. Activities during class will also encourage you to make considered consumer choices and understand the long-term financial impact on the decisions made.

 

Understanding Singapore 2 – A Larger Perspective (15 hours)

In today’s interconnected world, the future of Singapore should be considered in tandem with the development of the global community. By understanding the role that Singapore plays within this community, you gain clearer insights into the driving forces shaping the country’s public and foreign policies. An intimate knowledge of the local and global issues that Singapore faces will further enable you to appreciate its strategic positioning among her global peers.

 

Respect in Relationships (15 hours)

Gender-related perceptions affect our behaviour, attitudes towards relationships, career ambitions and life choices. By understanding the interaction between genders, gender biases, respect and sexual misconduct, you will be empowered to make wise and informed decisions. You will also gain insights and perspectives on developing healthy relationships, including those with your peers, partners and family members. 

In addition, an optional e-Learning topic “Wrong Side of the Bed” is available to improve your understanding of sexual health. The topic will include information on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Access to this optional topic is strictly voluntary.

Elective Modules

You will have a wide range of elective General Studies modules to choose from. Follow your areas of interest and pick courses from across disciplines and schools – beyond your field of study. You may pick modules offered by any of our schools, excluding the one you are attending.

Each 1-credit elective module consists of 10 hours of class time and 5 hours of eLearning/self-directed learning.

  • Learners enrolled in Academic Year 2023 will take 3 elective modules across Years 2 and 3.
  • Learners enrolled in Academic Year 2024 onwards will take 5 elective modules across Years 1 and 2. The list of elective modules offered will be released closer to the commencement of the first semester.
