SDM students' designs & illustrations used in Budget 2022 speech
School of Design & Media

Commissioned by the Ministry of Finance, three students from the School of Design & Media had their works featured in Budget 2022.

The visual design and illustration works are featured in this year’s Budget Speech, delivered by Minister Lawrence Wong in February 2022. They were also used in the grassroots slides by People’s Association for their Budget engagements with the communities across Singapore.

As part of their Year 3 Independent Work Project, students, Ashley Koh and Rebekah Chew, from Animation & Visual Effects, and Eng Zi Qin from Visual Communication, worked on the uphill tasks of coming up with slide designs, illustrated icons and seven cover illustrations.

Guided by SDM lecturers, the students experienced the gravity of addressing national topics through working closely with the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Finance.

Coming up with appropriate yet compelling concepts for topics surrounding the future of economy, recovery sustainability, social compact, and building a fairer system for our people was indeed challenging for the students. This opportunity emphasizes the intangible benefits for projects of this nature, which goes beyond producing the digital artwork.

NYP students and staff have been designing and providing visual content for previous years' Budget speeches since 2019.

Below, you can see some of the artwork they produced for the Budget speech.
