This Christmas video was playing on The Big Picture at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.
At 15 metres tall and 60 metres wide, 3rd-year students had to produce the animation work at 10k resolutions (IMAX is at 8k!).
The team used Kinect to motion capture the animation for 60 odd background characters’ animation.
This innovative solution helped the project save at least one month of the team’s efforts.
Works showcased in this video are done by 2020 graduates from our Digital Visual Effects Diploma!

“By integrating non-existent 3D objects into live footage, visual effects are the illusion that we perform on the virtual screens, making audiences believe in the stories we tell. We create our stories, stretching our imaginations beyond limits, entrapping peoples’ minds into the worlds we create. This course allows us to enhance the experience of storytelling with the help of strong visuals.”
As part of the Final Year project, 16 students created seamless visual effects to help re-create Singapore in the 1900s in MediaCorp Channel 8 drama series. They delivered a total of 150 visual effects shots over six months. Some of them even travelled to Penang to join the production crew in filming.
This work was produced and telecasted by MediaCorp channel 8, to commemorate 50 years of National Service in Singapore. On top of standard backgrounds clean up and gun fires, our students had the opportunity to work on major Visual Effects scenes like an earthquake, fighter jets and MRT explosion sequences!
Organised by the National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS), the competition seeks to raise awareness and understanding of climate change, its impact and how everyone can play a part in addressing the problem. This year’s theme “Our Climate Our Choice” highlights the close connection between our daily choices and climate change, and the urgent need to reduce Singapore’s carbon footprint by conserving energy.
