About the Course

The Work-Study Certificate (Leading to Diploma in Engineering (Mechatronics) is a work-study programme designed to give fresh graduates from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) a head-start in careers in robotics and automation, especially in the manufacturing sector. It also provides them an opportunity to bridge the gap between what they have learned in ITE and what the industry requires of them in the workplace.

Through consultation with industry, the Work-Study Certificate is designed to equip students with relevant hands-on skillsets in the field of electrical & electronics principles, automation technology and product design.

  • Course Structure

The proposed 540-hour Work-Study Certificate is modularised into three Modular Certificates (MCs).

Each MC is a 180-hour programme comprising of 6 modules of 30 hours each.

    •        Modular Certificate in Electrical & Electronics Principles

    •        Modular Certificate in Automation Technology

    •        Modular Certificate in Product Design

Another element of the Work-Study Certificate is the structured On-Job-Training (OJT) which will be delivered at participating companies and co-supervised by NYP staff.

Participants who meet the assessment and attendance requirements of three MCs can proceed to undertake another 2 MCs over two semesters.

    •        Modular Certificate in Mechatronics System Design

    •        Modular Certificate in Intelligent Control

Upon completion of these five MCs, students will then be awarded Diploma in Engineering (Mechatronics).

  • Target Participants

Fresh ITE graduates  (Full Time NITEC or Higher Nitec) transiting into the workplace within 36 months from their graduation or from their National Service Operationally Ready Date (ORD).

What You'll Study

  • Certification

Participants who meet the assessment and attendance requirements of the Work-Study Certificate’s three MCs will have completed 60% of a Diploma in Engineering (Mechatronics) and can look forward to completing another 2 MCs to be awarded a full Diploma.
