About the Course

NYP in collaboration with the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), have jointly developed a Specialist Diploma in Human Factors Engineering course by merging and integrating human factors sciences with engineering solutions. The Specialist Diploma is specially designed for practising engineers/system designers/assistant engineers or fresh graduates, with the aim to train professionals with the know-how and expertise in Human Factors Engineering to support the manufacturing and defence & security industries. Graduates from this Specialist Diploma will be given credit recognition by SUSS, should they choose to enrol on the relevant SUSS degree programme.

The 300-hour Specialist Diploma in Human Factors Engineering is modularised into two 150-hour Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs).

  • Post-Diploma Certificate in Human Factors Engineering & Systems Design
  • Post-Diploma Certificate in Human Factors Engineering & Applications

Participants who meet the assessment and attendance requirements for all the modules of a PDC will be awarded the respective Post-Diploma Certificate. Participants will be awarded the Specialist Diploma in Human Factors Engineering upon successful completion of both PDCs.

Applicants are welcome to take 1 or more module(s) without enrolment to this Specialist Diploma.

Course Objectives

On completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify, analyse and solve human-machine-workplace-environment issues by applying the principles of human-centred design
  • Identify, evaluate and optimise design for human-centric requirements and fatigue alleviation within complex socio-technical operations by applying physical and cognitive tests
  • Evaluate, design and implement human-centred cyber-physical systems for manufacturing shop-floor or products/solutions for defence & security by employing digital tools

Target Participants

  • Practicing engineers/system designers/assistant engineers working in the precision engineering, electronics & aerospace manufacturing or defence & security sectors
  • Fresh polytechnic graduates aiming to deepen their knowledge and skills for career advancement
  • PMETs who want to re-skill and start new careers in manufacturing or defence & security sectors

Advanced Standing by SUSS

SUSS will allow credit recognition to the graduates of this Specialist Diploma should they choose to enrol in SUSS for the relevant degree programme.
