Project Paint 2016 - Silver Homes
Published on 12 Nov 2016

Project Paint 2016 – “Silver Homes” was successfully concluded at Bukit Merah estate on last Saturday, 12th November 2016. Project Paint is a Students’ Union annual flagship programme in partnership with People’s Association since 2011 to clean and refurbish the homes of the less privileged. In an effort to do their bit for the Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng community, the Students’ Union organizing committee along with 240 students and 8 alumni volunteers gathered together that morning to clean, paint and refurbish the walls of 36 units of residents living in the Bukit Merah estate. Apart from painting the walls, the volunteers also took care to cover all the furniture to ensure the paint did not stain the furniture, and cleaned up the apartment before the residents returned. A few group of students also chatted and played games with the elderly and their children.

Although the day might be a long stretch for some, the volunteers felt that it was a very fulfilling and meaningful project, especially when their residents stepped into a freshly painted apartment with smiles and thanking them profusely. Before the volunteers leave, they left materials like painting kits and paint behind so that the owner of the apartment could use it in the future. Overall, the volunteers who participated enjoyed the community service and many have asked enthusiastically to participate in similar events in future.
