Interning at PwC Was a Blast!

Soh Yong Bin came to NYP on his older siblings’ advice. He visited NYP’s Open House, and was immediately attracted to the Diploma in Accountancy & Finance. But he wanted more than just academics, so he took advantage of NYP’s diverse opportunities. Yong Bin graduates with a near perfect GPA of 3.99 and the following academic awards:
- DBS Award
- EY Gold Medal
- Baker Tilly TFW LLP Award for Best Performance in the Internship Programme
He plans to pursue a Business degree in one of the local universities.
1. Why NYP?
I heard great things about the poly from my two older siblings who graduated from NYP too. They were always sharing stories about their poly life and in some way, I was influenced by them. But I also visited NYP’s Open House just to check out the school vibes. And, I liked it a lot! My diploma was my very first choice – I was dead set on doing Accountancy & Finance as I hope to work in the finance industry one day.
2. You interned at one of the ‘Big 4’ auditing firms. Tell us about it.
Interning at PricewaterhouseCoopers (aka PwC) was really fantastic. In fact, I was the only intern attached to the Initial Public Offering (IPO) team. There, I helped to audit three companies – one of which was successfully listed on the Hong Kong Exchange early this year. I gave 110% to the internship. I was pleasantly surprised PwC entrusted me to mentor and coach new interns.
3. Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Definitely still working hard in the finance industry. Hopefully, I would have upgraded my accounting skills and worked my way up the corporate ladder. That would be the dream!
4. What about your involvement outside the classroom?
My brother convinced me to check out the Life Saving CCA at NYP. So, I did and it was fun! I took on two Executive Committee roles: secretary and treasurer. It was hectic, though – training and studying at the same time. At times when it was competition season, I would train up to seven times a week, four hours at a time. Luckily, it paid off… I won a few medals in the National Life Saving Championships. 😊
