Joanna Ong Si Hui

Diploma in Motion Graphics & Broadcast Design

Curious since young, Joanna is often amazed by the world and would translate these observations onto paper via sketches. But growing up in a single-parent family wasn’t easy. Finances were a constant worry which kept her from discovering her true passion.

Thanks to the NYP scholarships and Edusave awards that helped defray her school fees, Joanna was able to fully embrace her creative side here with the Diploma in Motion Graphics & Broadcast Design. It was the start of a wonderful new journey for her.

Lecturers saw Joanna had a natural flair and she showed no fear in pushing the boundaries in art and design. She was always eager to take on new challenges for projects and assignments. Not only was Joanna an excellent teammate, she also stepped up and led many industry-collaboration projects! These include the National Heritage Board’s Orchard Trail brochure which featured AR content, promotional videos for Motorway SsangYong and an ongoing public exhibition at Malay Heritage Centre done in collaboration with local artist SpeakCryptic.

Her outstanding technical skills led her to an internship stint in Hong Kong with a premier production agency, eMotionLAB. During the three months there, Joanna worked on many projects with industry-leading clients including CreateHK for DigiconAsia 2019, Jets Jardine and PICO Hong Kong, which helped her to grow her professional expertise.

Despite having to juggle school and part-time work commitments, she also found time to actively participate in voluntary work and CCAs throughout her course. This is on top of her taking time out to observe her environment to seek new inspiration for her works.

Joanna graduates with an outstanding 3.94 GPA. She made it to the Director’s List for all six semesters.
