Hugo Chia Yong Zhi

Diploma in Cyber Security & Forensics

He listed NYP as his first choice in the Early Admissions Exercise after listening to our Principal/CEO talk at the 2016 Parents’ Seminar. He heard how well NYP students fared in competitions and was certain that he would thrive in this environment too.

And true to his expectations, Hugo was active in the student competition scene – both local and overseas, racking up achievements, one after the other. He took first place in an international threat defence challenge and podium positions in numerous other hackathons. He says he enjoyed them tremendously as they not only stretched his skills and abilities, but also gave him exposure to new industry trends.

“I enjoy taking part in competitions. They’re a way for me to stretch my skills and abilities, and, at the same time, gain exposure to industry trends.”

He took part in numerous CCAs while in NYP, from the Mentoring Club to Taekwondo. He was President of ISACA’s – an international professional association focused on IT governance – student chapter in NYP and co-founded the poly’s Cybersecurity Interest Group which today comprises more than 50 members.

NYP gave him the chance to intern at the Toronto office of IT giant, IBM. There, Hugo produced a working AI chatbot prototype for the Business Automation Workflow team. It caught the attention of IBM’s distinguished engineer & chief architect who recommended that Hugo receive a Distinction for his internship module.

He graduates with a perfect 4.0 GPA from the Diploma in Cyber Security & Forensics and has

has been offered a place in both the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University to read Computer Science.
