NYP offered her loads of opportunities
School of Health & Social Sciences

Celine never thought much about her career options while in secondary school. But an overseas medical mission to Cambodia in Secondary 4 changed that. While on this trip, she saw first-hand how the healthcare professionals were impacting and improving lives. That experience sealed the deal for her – she wanted to be a healthcare professional to help others.

At NYP, Celine was a consistent top performer, making it to the Director’s List for all six semesters. It was a big change from when she was in secondary school: A difficult period led her to transfer from the Express to Normal (Academic) stream.

In NYP, she went for two overseas exchanges – first to Japan, and then to Pennsylvania, USA. The short work attachment at the Japanese hospice taught her what empathy meant for healthcare professionals. She then spent two months at the University of Pennsylvania’s Hospital, learning about the importance of being patient-centric to help hasten the recovery process.

She says her time in NYP has helped hone her skills, and she’s learnt to care for patients by simply being present for them and listening empathetically.

Celine intends to deepen her skills and expertise in the healthcare industry and be at the forefront of Singapore’s healthcare scene.

Today she’s a proud NYP graduate with a near perfect GPA of 3.98 and also a recipient of the Tay Eng Soon Health Sciences Award.
We can’t be more proud of her! 🤗
