This Engineering Ace Once Failed Physics

Tan Xue Li may have failed physics in Secondary 2, but that did not stop her from excelling in her chosen Diploma in Digital & Precision Engineering at NYP.
This go-getter burnt countless weekends self-studying physics even before her first year in NYP started. She bought textbooks and practiced physics papers to build a solid foundation and it worked! In fact, from failing physics, Xue Li went on to tutoring her NYP peers in the subject. She has not only aced physics in the last three years but is also graduating this May with an impressive GPA of 3.95.

2) What is your favourite spot in NYP?
T-junction! That’s where I spent most of my free time – either having fun with my friends or studying with them.
3) Your biggest achievement in NYP?
Going from being someone who failed Physics and A Math in secondary school to graduating with a GPA of 3.95 and scoring all As for Engineering Math.
4) You took up German as an optional elective. How did you like it? Any fun German words you’d like to share?
I enjoyed all the German lessons in NYP as we had German natives as teachers and they would always share their experience living in Germany.
Fun words? There were so many! I was most amused when I found out 'hell' in German means bright and 'gross' in German means big.
5) What was the best part about being a peer tutor?
Being a peer tutor was definitely one of the highlights of my time in NYP. The best part has got to be the sense of fulfilment when my tutees do well for their tests and exams. Nothing beats that!
