Tinkering His Way into Microsoft

Hi! I am Chew Rong Kang, a graduate from the Diploma in Information Technology. I love Microsoft products. So I was super excited when introduced to the Microsoft community in NYP.  My lecturer, who saw me constantly tinkering with Microsoft Windows, asked me to join the Microsoft Student Partners programme.  This meant I became a student ambassador for Microsoft platforms and tools in campus.

For the next three years, I ran lots of events and workshops on Microsoft products. I hijacked many of my peers’ lectures to talk about Windows 8!  I was really enthu and enjoyed sharing new knowledge and ideas with my friends.

In my final year,  I was offered a dream internship in Microsoft Singapore as a Technical Evangelist. This gave me the chance to work with developers, and I helped run marketing campaigns for start-ups and IT professionals.  I loved every bit of it. Besides just the tech stuff, I also learnt how to engage target audiences.

Fast forward a few years. Today, I am studying for a degree in Information Systems in Carnegie Mellon University in the US.  My Microsoft experience has given me invaluable exposure and taught me important skills.  It has opened me up to the IT industry. It has prepared me to take on the working world. And all these were made possible only because I came to NYP!
