Was your NYP diploma your first choice after secondary school?
Yes, I heard from my friends that NYP has a strong reputation in IT, so I made it my top choice!
What key skills or insights from the NYP journey have been most valuable in your academic and personal development?
From the strong technical foundation to soft skills, developed through a wide range of competitions and certifications apart from curriculum — taught me discipline and resilience, especially during challenging times. Learning to approach problems from different perspectives also strengthened my adaptability and prepared me to handle diverse situations. I continue to apply these highly transferable skills in my work today.
What motivated you to take on the CSIT-Nanyang scholarship, and how has your experience as a CSIT-Nanyang scholar helped you grow?
I joined the CSIT scholarship programme to further understand the key technical cybersecurity skills, which were so widely sought after. My experience as a CSIT-Nanyang scholar gave me loads of hands-on experiences to develop my cybersecurity skillsets, e.g. penetration testing and web security, which enabled me to excel in various security-related competitions. During my CSIT internship, I had the opportunity to write a grey-box fuzzer to uncover vulnerabilities and bugs, which was frankly quite fun.
How did your experiences at NYP help prepare you for your further studies?
The specialised curriculum, along with the additional training provided by NYP, gave me a solid foundation of knowledge for university and beyond. Having a broad understanding of computing — from programming languages to systems — has helped me better apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations.
Were there any NYP lecturers or mentors who played a significant role in your success? How did they guide or inspire you?
Definitely. Most of my NYP lecturers, ex-lecturers, and mentors had a considerable impact in my life. Including the entire staff directory would not be an over-exaggeration! They were encouraging, passionate about their subject, respectful and empathic, and went beyond simply teaching and imparting knowledge.
