This is where the development of medical devices and implants are performed and is one of our key areas of focus in terms of development as well as in our biomedical elective and proposed diploma programmes. Activities will include in the complete value chain from product conception to detail mechanical design and prototyping of the medical devices and instruments, such as medical disposable, assistive devices and implants, medical instrumentation, biosensors and micro-medical components.

Medical Device Validation Lab

The Medical Device Validation lab contains various testing stations required to validate the performance and reliability of in-house-developed biomedical devices, such as packaging and sterilisation tests. Such tests ensure that the high standards and safety level required of medical devices are preserved in line with regulations and standards in the biomedical field.

BioMEMs Lab

The BioMEMs lab houses the latest analytical and developmental tools for the design, development and testing of bioMEMS devices and biosensors. Applied research and development are also performed diverse biomedical applications like diagnostic in-vitro and implantable devices, miniaturised therapeutic systems integrated micro and nanofluidic systems.

Bioimaging Lab

The Bioimaging lab houses projects in the areas of computational bioengineering. This includes biomedical simulation and analyses for predicting the performance and characteristics of the devices prior to production as well as for predicting the human anatomy and physiology, diagnostic imaging applications like cancer detection systems, biomedical virtual modelling and expert systems.

The Biomaterials lab carries out the selection, processing to obtain composite mixtures , characterisation to determine structural and chemical integrity of biomaterials and testing, in the development of biomedical products. The services to be provided by the lab are among the key areas of needs required by the industries when developing or assessing their new biomedical products.
