About this course
Course objectives
This course provides an in-depth exploration of intra-oral scanning (IOS) and its transformative role in modern dentistry. Designed for Oral Health Therapists (OHTs) and interested Dental Care Professionals (DCPs), the course covers the scientific foundations, clinical applications, and practical considerations of using intra-oral scanners to enhance their work scope in line with increasing digitalization of workflow in oral health care.Through interactive lectures, case studies, and hands-on demonstrations, participants will learn the IOS technique and communicate its benefits and limitations to patients and caregivers. The course also addresses practical aspects of integrating IOS into comprehensive treatment plans.Upon completing the course, OHTs and DCPs would possess the expertise and confidence to integrate intra-oral scanning (IOS) into their clinical routines, enabling a more streamlined workflow, significantly shorter treatment times, and enhanced clinical efficiency.
Course description
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the fundamentals, advantages and limitations of IOS in accordance with the intra-oral scanner’s manufacturer guidelines. 2. Evaluate the indications, contraindications of IOS for patient care in relation to clinical practice. 3. Articulate the workflow for integrating IOS into patient care, ensuring alignment with established clinical practice guidelines. 4. Demonstrate the proper use of scanned images in patient management and record-keeping in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). 5. Demonstrate IOS as an initial diagnostic tool for preventive measures in relation to clinical practice. 6. Demonstrate the ability to contribute to diagnostic evaluations and treatment planning, in alignment with the responsibilities and scope of practice of an Oral Health Therapist. 7. Demonstrate proficiency in effective communication with patients and caregivers about the benefits, risks, and expectations of using IOS, in relation to informed consent guidelines.

OHTs seeking to obtain the Certificate of Competency (CoC), to expand their scope of practice with the Singapore Dental Council (SDC). Note: The Certificate of Completion issued by NYP is recognised by SDC as equivalent to the CoC.Registered Dentists who are interested to expand their clinical skills.
