Course objectives
This Learning Unit introduces the essential concepts of cybersecurity, tailored for learners from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. It focuses on building a foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles, the evolving threat landscape, and the critical role of security in the digital world. Participants will explore key topics such as common cyber threats, data protection, secure online practices, and the importance of policies and compliance in maintaining organizational security.

No prior technical knowledge is required, making this learning unit accessible and engaging for all disciplines.
This learning unit is part of the (SCTP) Certificate in Cybersecurity Incident Investigator programme, supported by Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and CyberSG Talent, Innovation and Growth (TIG) Collaboration Centre under the SG Cyber Professionals initiative.
Course description
At the end of the learning unit, you will be able toIdentify common cybersecurity threats, such as phishing, malware, and social engineering, and understand their potential impact on individuals and organizations.
Explain the importance of data privacy, confidentiality, and integrity, and describe best practices for safeguarding sensitive information.
Apply secure online behaviours, including creating strong passwords, recognizing suspicious activities, and utilizing basic security tools to reduce risks in personal and professional contexts.
Explain the role of cybersecurity policies, regulations, and compliance frameworks in organizational security and how professionals in non-technical roles can support a secure environment.
Perform risk assessment and recommend risk mitigation measures.
