Case Studies

    • Recovering Precious Waste – Secure IC Recovery System for Credit Card Recycling
Facilitates the secure extraction and recycling of IC chips from expired credit cards, promoting sustainability while ensuring data protection and regulatory compliance.
    • Efficient Water Usage
Enables continuous water monitoring, early leakage detection, and data-driven maintenance to support water-saving efforts. This is achieved through edge computing and a wireless mesh network that connects over a hundred devices, including water meters, flowrate meters, PRVs, and pressure sensors, across multiple buildings. The devices also support Bluetooth for diagnostics and firmware updates, enhancing operational efficiency.
    • Tackling Heat Stress
Utilises thermoelectric cooling (Peltier effect) to efficiently draw heat away from the body, reducing the risk of heat-related injuries and boosting productivity for outdoor workers. It also helps lower reliance on energy-intensive cooling systems in workplaces.
    • Predictive Thermal Monitoring System for Power Distribution
Employs contactless infrared (IR) sensors and advanced data analytics to monitor the surface temperature at hundreds of points along electric busbars in an electrical distribution board, enabling early detection and prediction of overloading and faults.
    • Microwave Green-man Push button
Enables touchless activation of the green man at pedestrian crossings using a compact, all-weather microwave sensor. Designed for seamless integration with existing traffic light systems, it reduces maintenance requirements and enhances reliability.
    • Real-Time Equipment Health Monitoring with IIoT for Predictive Maintenance
Enhances predictive maintenance by enabling continuous performance monitoring, early fault detection, minimised downtime, and increased operational efficiency.
    • Smart Manufacturing
Streamlines manufacturing processes in the Precision Engineering industry through a Quality Inspection Workflow System. Enhances efficiency, reduces human error, and ensures consistent product quality across production.
    • Smart Connected Emergency Lighting System
Improves building safety and energy efficiency through automated self-testing, real-time status monitoring, and remote control. Ensures reliable emergency illumination, regulatory compliance, and reduced maintenance efforts.
    • Realtime Cable Car Remote Monitoring System
Continuously monitors cable car operations to ensure passenger safety and system efficiency. Detects faults, tracks performance, and provides real-time alerts to prevent operational disruptions and maintain infrastructure reliability.
    • Sensing Vital Signs
Developed a contactless, continuous vital signs monitoring device incorporating a 24GHz radar for seamless, non-invasive monitoring. The device features a dual-core microcontroller with integrated low-noise, high-speed ADCs to digitise analogue RF signals. It also includes Wi-Fi capabilities for real-time data acquisition and cloud-based analysis.

This project was completed in collaboration with an industry expert in radar sensors.
    • Enhancing Mobility – Autonomous Wheelchairs
Improves accessibility by providing self-navigating wheelchairs for passengers with mobility needs. Enhances convenience and reduces reliance on staff assistance.
    • Smart Food Portioning Kitchen Tool
For precise food portion control to support meal distribution that follows dietitians’ guidelines. Enhances accuracy and helps maintain dietary compliance.
    • Wireless Barcode Scanner & Temperature Taking Device
Automates fever detection and attendance recording in educational institutions with a handheld gadget. Reduces teachers’ workload by streamlining temperature checks and attendance management.
    • Electronic Access Control System with Secure Element
Enhances security using cryptographic authentication to ensure only authorised users gain access. Protects against tampering and duplication.
    • Communication Software Using WebRTC Technology
Enables real-time, secure, and low-latency communication for emergency response. Supports encrypted video, voice, and data transmissions over IoT networks, ensuring reliable connectivity and protection of sensitive information in critical situations.
    • Smart Solution for Safer Roads
Leverages edge computing to optimise the deployment of temporary mobile alarms at work zones compliant with Land Transport Authority guidelines. Incorporates real-time vehicle detection and tracking, utilising a proprietary algorithm to assess collision risks and issue timely alerts.
