Chen Jia Yi Class of 2013 Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Passionate about sharing his WSS experience with new batches of NYP participants, Jia Yi would come back to NYP as many as three times a week to support the WorldSkills Singapore (WSS) training programme. Even while he was serving NS and later, while pursuing his studies at NTU, Jia Yi continued to coach our students. He was actively involved in training students for WSS2014 and WSS2016. All the students achieved the Gold awards at these competitions. Together with the WSS coaches, Jia Yi was involved in project assessments, coaching students and preparing them on the day of competition. Jia Yi was always ready to give advice to students and would guide students in honing their leadership skills and inculcating professionalism Chong Kai Kit, Steven Class of 1993 Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering (Production Technology) Steven is a keen advocate in adopting robotics and automation technologies to support the manufacturing sector. To make a meaningful contribution to the training of PET and CET students, Steven negotiated with his employer Mitsubishi Electric Asia (MEA) for the donation of their state-of-the-art e@Factory solutions to support SEG's training programme. In 2015, an MOU was signed between MEA and NYP, enabling a donation with an estimated value of $300,000 that included the most advanced Mitsubishi e@Factory solutions, hardware, applications, software and training workshops. This generous donation helped equip our teaching staff with the latest automation technologies and supported them in developing a relevant practicum for PET and CET students. Steven also strongly supports and endorses NYP's capability and recommends NYP to SMEs for industry projects. Lim Siew Poh, Robin Class of 2008 Diploma in Electronics, Computer & Communications Engineering Since graduating from NYP, Robin has been coming back to NYP weekly on a voluntary basis to assist with coaching the Ultimate Frisbee (UF) Team. Robin also comes back on non-training days during the weekend to coach students who wish to improve their throws or physical fitness. An individual with vast experiences, Robin is a 'father figure' to both the students and alumni as he devotes his time listening to them and giving them advice. In addition, Robin advocates all-round development of students and also mentors new batches of alumni, encouraging them to contribute back to the team. Rebecca Lim Qin Rong Class of 2013 Diploma in Social Studies (Social Work) Rebecca has been actively volunteering her time and services at NYP since graduating in 2013. She has been contributing during NYP open houses as a course advisor. She initiates team bonding activities amongst students from the various cohorts, avails herself to make improvements to the Social Work course and leads an outreach project every year collecting donated items for distribution to the homeless. A role model, Rebecca was also elected as the President of the Social Work Alumni Chapter to lead in alumni events and grow the professional competency of social work associates. Juggling between her work as a Social Work Associate at TRANS SAFE and pursuing her part-time degree in social work at SUSS, Rebecca has demonstrated unwavering dedication in serving NYP. Alvin Low Jun Yao Class of 2008 Diploma in Electronics, Computer & Communications Engineering Since graduating from NYP ten years ago, Alvin has been coming back to NYP weekly on a voluntary basis to assist with coaching the 200-member strong Ultimate Frisbee (UF), a sports CCA team. Alvin is the assistant coach, the second-in-command of the UF Team and takes on the main coaching role in the coach's absence. With great foresight in game play, Alvin is able to give the right call for the team. His tactical skills helps the team to score points using the best or simplest approach. Alvin has been instrumental in helping the UF team win the POL-ITE Championship Games since 2010, 6 Invitational IVPs and top three runner-up positions in four other Invitational IVP competitions. Benjamin Ho Class of 2006 Diploma in Business Management Benjamin Ho started the Ultimate Frisbee (UF) Club in NYP back in 2004 while he was still a student. The current coach of NYP UF and sports GSMs, Benjamin coached the UF team as a volunteer for over five years after his graduation. Benjamin’s contribution had laid a strong foundation for the UF team enabling the team to win every POL-ITE UF games since the games started 8 years ago. Devising a good training structure and enlisting the help of alumni coaches/ volunteers, his strategy and hard work turned the NYP UF team into a champion team. Under his leadership, UF students have learnt to be humble and respectful sportsmen and women. Calvin Sim Class of 2003 Diploma in Physiotherapy A former captain of the NYP Athletics Team in 2002, Calvin was the man behind the team who brought the athletes back on track to shine for NYP in POL-ITE Track & Field events. The Women's team has been winning the Championship since 2009, while the men's team has been clinching the top three positions since 2010. The Team has also won overall second place in 2014 and third place in 2015 and 2016. Besides motivating the students to give their personal best, Calvin has also been treating our injured athletes at his Physiotherapy Clinic on a pro bono basis. As an adjunct lecturer at the School of Health Sciences, Calvin was involved in the Physiotherapy Standardised Patient Programme and provides supervision at our NYP Physiotherapy Clinic. Kuik Kiah Kang, Alan Class of 2000 Diploma in Information Technology Alan is the founder of Infospace, a provider of IT solutions. He is a strong supporter of NYP and has hired a number of NYP students on a part-time basis for available vacancies. Two of the parttTimers were later hired as full-time staff. Alan has also taken in at least eight interns from NYP School of IT. Alan would take in one student at a time and mentor them to prepare them for working life. About 75% of his staff are from NYP. Alan also takes time to support various SIT and NYP-wide alumni events and activities. In addition, he also participated in the PQAF 2015 interview with alumni and two FGDs with alumni over the last two years. Muhammad Azri Bin Mohamed Class of 2010 Diploma in Electronics, Computer & Communications Engineering Azri has been coming back to NYP weekly for the past 7 years to coach and train students from the La Ballroom En Masse, a CCA club in NYP. He has also choreographed dances for performances and competitions on a voluntary basis. In addition, Azri has also performed with the students at events like the Club Crawl and the club's inaugural dance production in 2016. Azri was also the lead dancer for 'As One Dance Musical' in Nov 2015. He was invited to be one of the judges for the Live Art installation for Spectrum Arts Festival in Oct 2016. Tan Tse Yong Class of 2004 Diploma in Sport & Wellness Management Tse Yong is a successful entrepreneur who founded sports supplement e-store FitLion and Gymmboxx and achieved a sales turnover of $13m in just a short span of 6 years. Crediting his success to NYP, Tse Yong has decided to give back to his alma mater by sponsoring a new integrated scholarship programme for NYP students. The sponsorship includes covering the tuition fee of $8,000 for one SW diploma student and a 21-week internship programme. Tse Yong was a panellist at the NYP Business Lecture in May 2015, keynote speaker at SW Seminar 2016 and speaker at Entrepreneurship Seminar in Mar 2017. At every opportunity, Tse Yong continues to motivate and inspire students to 'never give up' on pursuing their passion and dreams. Even when he was serving NS and later when he was studying at the Singapore Institute of Technology, Ye Seng continued to return to NYP to support the School and coach our students in the Mobile Robotics trade for the competition. Besides technical competency, Ye Seng also guided our students in stress management and time management that are essential for success in the competition.
