For our final year chemical technology students, the industry talk by Stephen Fowler, Board Director of Singapore Chemical Industry Council on 5 July provided some validation for their choice of study and their career prospects. Mr Fowler, also general manager of Shell Jurong Island shared about the lucrative chemical industry in Singapore that has a total output of $81 billion and is also one of the largest manufacturing clusters in Singapore. An alumnus from the pioneer batch of the Diploma in Chemical & Pharmaceutical Technology, Rahinni Thannimalai, also came down to talk to our students. As one of the first female technicians in a male-dominated sector, she had the unique opportunity to design the very first maternity coverall for Shell. The talk ended with a fun quiz and prizes from SCIC and Shell.
