Five NYP students from the School of Information Technology and School of Engineering topped one of the categories at the inaugural HackerFest 2018, organised by the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA).

DSTA invited participants to look for innovative solutions in Image Analytics, Game-Based Solutions for Army Training as well as using Immersive Media for its Zero Footprint Ops Centre. In the last category, the participants were tasked to create a solution for an operations centre to perform disaster recovery and anti-terrorism activity, with a minimal deployment of resources. The scenario was an anti-terror exercise at an MRT station.

The judges liked the team's idea to convert a building floor layout from 2D to 3D as well as its ability to use Image Analysis processing, and eventually awarded NYP the win. This win gives our students an opportunity to work with DSTA on a prototype of their proposed solution.
