Pride of NYP
Published on 14 Aug 2019

Nanyang Polytechnic made history: For the first time ever, an NYP contingent marched in this year’s National Day Parade (NDP). In fact, we’re the only tertiary institution to march. And that’s not it. This year is also our largest involvement at NDP with more than 100 staff and students taking part, in numerous roles.

The NYP contingent

16 staff and 29 students answered the call for volunteers to form the contingent. They started training in May and have been practising every Saturday since then, from morning to evening, rain or shine. For most, it was a once in a lifetime experience.

School of Business Management (SBM) Students

This is the sixth year that our School of Business Management (SBM) students have been working on NDP. They are responsible for the-making-of videos shown at post-NDP Appreciation Functions for NDP participants. What makes this bicentennial celebration even more special for them is that their work will also be shown on the large screens at the Padang, just like it was during the SG50 NDP. The return of their work to the big screen in another milestone year for Singapore speaks volumes of our students’ level of professionalism.

School of Interactive and Digital Media (SIDM) Students

Our School of Interactive and Digital Media (SIDM) students have also let their creative juices flow for NDP. They worked very closely with the NDP Committee – including Multimedia Director Royston Tan – to create a series of narrative videos to complement the performances. This is the ninth year our SIDM students are producing graphical content for NDP – the only poly students to do so.

School of Health and Social Sciences First Aiders

While everyone is wowed by the work of our students during NDP, our student nurses will be on the stands watching over them. This year, 49 Diploma in Nursing students will take on the role of First Aiders, alongside the Singapore Armed Forces medical team, to help attend to any medical situations. This is the third year that our student nurses have been roped in to contribute their medical skills and knowledge to the NDP.

All of you make us proud.
