Helping Aspiring Hawkers
Industry Published on 20 Jan 2020

Aspiring hawkers keen to join the trade can now apply under the Hawkers’ Development Programme which was launched on 20 Jan. Our chef trainers from Nanyang Polytechnic’s Asian Culinary Institute (NYP-ACI) will coach newbie hawkers in a five-day training course on food safety and hygiene, fundamental skills in cooking techniques, as well as business and marketing skills. They will also learn how to leverage social media and food delivery apps to further their customer outreach.

The Hawkers’ Development Programme is part of a joint effort by the National Environment Agency and SkillsFuture Singapore to sustain and promote the hawker trade. NYP-ACI and the Federation of Merchants Associations of Singapore also signed an agreement to promote the programme among their network of aspiring and existing hawkers.
