Our students won second place in the cloud computing category at Huawei APAC ICT Competition’s regional round, earning them a spot in the finals.

The competition saw entrants from 272 leading universities and colleges across 10 countries, including India, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Singapore, and the Philippines.

The team comprises Edison Choo (Year Three, SIT) and Holden Han (Year Two, SIT) from the Diploma in Information Technology, and Lee Zi Xiang (SEG) from the Diploma in Infocomm & Media Engineering. They’d undergone intensive training conducted by SEG and a three-day bootcamp organised by Huawei.

Zi Xiang shared that the competition was tough: “At one point we were relying on the Huawei manual to tackle the tasks, which were highly specific to Huawei’s systems. Thankfully, we had the foundational knowledge to navigate through them. We did well in the theory section and scored on the high-weightage tasks in the practical, which really helped pull up our scores.”

The team will continue to train for the final leg of the competition, which will be held in June 2022. The Huawei APAC ICT Competition identifies and cultivates young ICT talents, so as to drive the future of digital transformation. It is the largest ICT skills competition in the APAC region.
