Course objectives

Participants will learn to interpret key hotel analytics by calculation of various performance metrics and analyse hotel revenue management to determine key performance indicators. This is achieved by applying basic techniques employed in the property level benchmarking and hotel industry performance reports.

Course description

1. Brief introduction to the hospitality business

2. Computation of the key hotel rooms performance indicators of Average Room Rate (AOR), Occupancy Rate (OCC), and Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR)

3. Reading and interpretation of hotel rooms performance reports (property-level, STB and relevant industry generated reports) 4. Analysis of property-level rooms performance as benchmarked against a competitive set, and basic decision-making based on the analysis

Trainer Profile:

Darren Sze, LecturerDarren Sze is a Lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Business Management. He holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Bachelor of Hospitality Business with Honours from the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). Prior to academia, he gained industry experience with luxury hotel brands, specialising in hotel operations and guest experience management.

Drawing on both industry and academic experience, Darren teaches hospitality, tourism, sustainability, and business-related subjects. His interests include hospitality operations, business analytics, and sustainable tourism, with a focus on helping learners apply data-driven and practical solutions to real-world industry challenges.
