EAE Tips: Social Work (C47)

NYP’s Diploma in Social Work is for you if you want to make a difference by helping individuals, families and communities thrive. You will learn about the core principles and practices of social work and acquire skills to empower individuals, families and communities from diverse backgrounds. You will gain competencies in casework, groupwork, community development, programme development and professional practice through industry placements and impactful community projects, in collaboration directly with social workers from the industry.

Ideal applicant

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Interest in social work;
  • Empathy and compassion for others, especially in engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds;
  • Desire to pursue a career in the social service sector;
  • Relevant work or volunteering experience in the healthcare or social service sector, preferably in leadership roles;
  • Analytical thinking of prevailing social issues; and 
  • Skills in leadership communication, teamwork, and collaboration.

Shortlisted applicants will be assessed as follows:

Aptitude test

Shortlisted applicants are required to take a group aptitude test. The aptitude test is designed to assess candidates on analytical thinking, problem solving, leadership and communication skills. 

Interview

You will be invited for an group interview to share more about your passion for the course with a panel of interviewers. The duration of the group interview will be about 1 hour.

Some questions which you may be asked during the interview include:

  • Why do you choose social work as a career?
  • What experience do you have in social service and community work?
  • What makes you suitable to be in the social service sector?
  • What do you know about social work?
  • What have you learnt from your volunteering experience?
Portfolio (Optional)

You may include in your portfolio, any evidence and/or activities that showcase your character and involvement relevant to community and social service (such as volunteering and leadership skills) and non-related CCAs.

 

Examples of what to include in your portfolio:

  • Testimonials
  • Certificates (e.g., academic, achievement(s) and/or personal development)
  • Evidence of community development projects / attachments
  • Volunteering experiences with individuals from diverse backgrounds, outside of Values In Action (VIA) programme
  • Awards or participation in competitions, both at school and/or national level
  • Evidence of leadership activities or roles
  • Participation in CCAs

  1. Course has course-level intake allowance of 50%.
