Dear Freshmen,

 

Hello, and a very warm welcome to Nanyang Polytechnic!

 

I am Mr Russell Chan, your principal.

 

Your journey from here on is uniquely yours to create.

 

I urge you to take full advantage of the many opportunities available – from immersion trips, lunchtime talks, CCAs, competitions and internships, to hands-on experiences at MakerSpaceNYP and beyond. These experiences will help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in both work and life.

 

And we will support you every step of the way. 

 

Our strong partnerships with leading universities and companies ensure that what you learn remains relevant and future-ready. You will also have the opportunity to learn from and be mentored by industry experts.

 

At NYP, we place strong emphasis on three important areas.

 

First, sustainability is our collective responsibility.
Each of us has a role to play in caring for our environment and contributing to the community. Through your projects, CCAs, and daily actions, you can make a meaningful difference.

 

Second, new challenges will require new ideas, and innovation is key.
We encourage you to stay curious, to explore different perspectives, and to challenge yourself to think creatively. Most importantly, find in yourself the courage to turn ideas into impact.

 

And third, as things get more complex, AI will help.
As artificial intelligence continues to shape the world around us, it will become an important tool in how we learn, work, and solve problems. At NYP, we will guide you to harness AI responsibly and effectively – so that you can work smarter, create more, and stay ahead in a rapidly changing world.

 

Together, sustainability, innovation, and AI will empower you to make a positive impact.

Not just for yourselves, but for society.

 

And you're not alone in this, because here at NYP, we are one big family.

If things ever get tough, or you simply need someone to talk to, remember that your Personal Mentor and lecturers are always here for you.
