Principal’s message

Dear Class of 2024,

Here we are, at your Graduation.

I speak on behalf of your advisors and lecturers: We are very proud of you.

Your cohort experienced one of the most seismic shifts that the world has ever experienced. A virus, which humanity initially had no proper defence against, came swift and unannounced.

You were on the cusp of a new adventure, starting your poly life, when COVID-19 hit Singapore. Many policies were enacted quickly to protect ourselves and our loved ones: but it also meant multiple restrictions that impacted you and your learning.

I know the early days were tough. You had to cope with new changes: we all pivoted to online lessons and virtual CCA meetings – even your orientation was online.

But your cohort more than found your footing. You came up with innovative solutions to work with fellow classmates, such as rigging up cameras to get different views for project work, finding new tools online. CCA groups found new ways to keep training together, and practising music, sport, art, dance.

I am certain that your COVID-19 experience will not scar you, but instead, give you an added advantage as you navigate a world that has become increasingly complex. Your maturity, resilience and the initiative you showed – especially tackling problems with new ways of thinking – will stand you in good stead.

Now, your next adventure beckons. Whichever path you take, believe in yourself and the skills you have acquired here. Be confident that your education has prepared you well for the next lap.

I leave you with this piece of advice:

The world is changing rapidly. But change brings opportunity. Stay curious. Keep learning.

Sometimes we need an extra leg up: you can always learn and re-learn. And NYP will be here for you, to help you do that.

I wish you the very best.

Once again, my sincerest congratulations.
