When precision meets partnership, innovation follows.

Leuze Electronic Singapore, a global expert in sensor solutions for industrial automation, collaborated with Nanyang Polytechnic’s (NYP) School of Engineering to fast-track the certification process of their optical proximity sensors. The project, conducted in Q1 2024, focused on EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing and measurement - a critical step in ensuring that electronic products meet international regulatory standards.

How does it work?

To market their industrial sensors globally, Leuze must comply with stringent EMC standards such as CE (Conformité Européenne) for the European Union.

Leuze turned to NYP’s EMC Test Facility to conduct early-stage diagnostics and design reviews. With guidance from NYP’s EMC specialists, Dr Lim Teck Beng and Mr Loh Theen Poh, the project enabled preliminary testing of the sensors, helping the company identify and resolve potential issues before entering formal certification.

The partnership not only improved design reliability but also reduced the risk of costly rework – resulting in a shorter time-to-market for Leuze’s product line.

Why does it matter?

This collaboration builds on a long-standing partnership. Leuze has been engaging NYP since 2017 across EMC testing and R&D consultancy. In recognition of this close collaboration, NYP was invited to Leuze’s 10th anniversary celebration in March 2025.

In addition to joint projects, Leuze also supports student internships, giving NYP learners hands-on experience in the industrial R&D process.

The project:

  • Reinforces NYP’s technical credibility in the local electronics ecosystem
  • Strengthens NYP’s mission of industry-relevant innovation
  • Provides students with real-world exposure and professional mentorship

This partnership reflects NYP’s commitment to co-developing practical, scalable, and future-ready engineering solutions for the industry.

Letter of Appreciation by Leuze Singapore to NYP

Liew Wee Chang, R&D Principal Engineer, Leuze Electronic Singapore, said:

"The EMC lab at NYP has been a reliable partner in our development cycle, providing valuable insights that align with global compliance requirements."
