SC102 Classification and the Harmonised System

This module provides learners with knowledge in the structure of the harmonised system (HS) – an internationally-standardised system of names and numbers used to classify traded products for import and export. The learners will be taught to apply the techniques and rules used in classification in finding the appropriate codes for different types of goods. Common mistakes and best practices will also be shared. Learners will also be introduced to useful resources such as the ebook on Singapore Trade Classification, Customs and Excise Duty, and custom website for identifying the appropriate HS codes.

  • Trainer Profile

    Our trainers are qualified lecturers from the School of Business Management, Nanyang Polytechnic. They are trained in the areas of:

    • Custom procedures

    • Classification and the harmonised system

    • Rules of origin and free trade area 

    • TradeNet declaration

    • Strategic goods control, and 

    • Essentials of internal (export control) compliance. 

    These trainers have over 10 years of industry experience in the areas of supply chain and business operations. They possess vast experience in engaging learners in continuous education and pre-employment training. In addition, they are the program experts in the domain area of supply chain management – including warehouse operations, inventory management, freight management, purchasing and supply management and shipping law.
