Tea Pei Qi

Diploma in Multimedia & Infocomm Technology (now known as Diploma in Infocomm & Media Engineering)

Pei Qi scored an impressive three points for her O Levels.

She candidly shares that her parents thought it a mistake for her to enter a polytechnic. But Pei Qi knew that the style of teaching suited her better.

She zoned in on NYP and the Diploma in Multimedia & Infocomm Technology for the Early Admissions Exercise. Her conviction was right: She has absolutely aced it since. Pei Qi was on the School of Engineering’s Director’s List for all six semesters, and she’s graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

She wasn’t just burying her nose in the books though. During her NYP journey, she was very active in the competition scene, and made her mark at the national WorldSkills Singapore tourney by clinching the Gold medal for Web Design & Development. From there, she went on to represent Singapore at the international leg held in Kazan, Russia. Competing against young developers from all over the world, she won a Medallion of Excellence – it was an unforgettable experience, she says and one she is grateful for.

Yet, she’s also made sure to make time in the Mentoring club, working with secondary school students on the weekends to help them in their studies.

Pei Qi today is one of NYP’s top graduates, earning the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Award.

IBM has snapped her up to work full-time. She says she wants to gain some valuable practical skills as an apprentice application developer before pursuing her computer science degree.
