Here’s a glimpse of three of our medallists:

Yuki Lee Sum Yong

Silver Medal in Chemical Laboratory Technology
Diploma in Applied Chemistry, School of Applied Sciences

Yuki Lee Sum Yong

Gruelling, yet rewarding – that is how Yuki described her WorldSkills Shanghai experience. With each competition day spanning from 8 am to 6 pm, all Yuki wanted to do was to rest each time she returned to her hotel.

“Yet it is through this experience that I’ve learnt so many new techniques, tried out new machines and made likeminded and passionate people from all over the world that I’m glad to call my friends,” Yuki summed up her experience.

Yuki was thankful to her coaches and expert, who came up with unique and interesting test projects for her to help her to adapt to the rigours of the competition.

When she first heard her name being announced as the silver medallist, Yuki couldn’t believe it at first.

“The competition was really tough, with so many strong competitors. I’m happy to see that my three years of training have paid off. For me, winning really validated my laboratory skills and gave me confidence,” she says.

Nur Insyirah Hanna Binte Nor Azhar

Bronze Medal in 3D Digital Game Art
Diploma in Animation, Games & Visual Effects, School of Design & Media

Nur Insyirah Hanna Binte Nor Azhar

Move on, and don’t dwell on your mistakes – that was the best advice that Nur Insyirah’s coaches have given her.

Insyirah joined WorldSkills to improve her speed and time management in real-world settings Throughout her WorldSkills training and participation in competitions, she learnt to stay focused under pressure and adapt quickly when challenges arose.

"When something goes wrong during the competition, I learnt to just move on to the next steps instead of thinking about the mistakes I make," she shared.

The bronze medal came as a welcome surprise, but for Insyirah, the achievement represents more than a podium finish. It is a tribute to the coaches who believed in her potential, as well as the family and friends who supported her every step of the way.

Jackie Soon

Bronze Award in Software Applications Development
Diploma in Information Technology, School of Information Technology

Jackie Soon

Jackie really soaked into the atmosphere of WorldSkills Shanghai.

He says: “It was an amazing experience like no others. The scale of this event was massive. I got to meet the best from many countries, with varied experiences and different backgrounds. We even had fun together, like doing a skill traditional dance before and after each session.”

Jackie's journey was not without challenges. Training demanded extraordinary commitment, and he even had to overcome illness during WorldSkills Shanghai. Supported by his coaches, he learnt how to stay focused in difficult circumstances.

Beyond winning bronze, Jackie values the lessons, personal growth and international connections gained through the WorldSkills experience,

Congratulations to all our competitors, coaches, lecturers and experts for their achievements and dedication.

At the competition, Team Singapore amassed four silver medals, four bronze medals and 19 Medallions for Excellence, with NYP competitors playing a role in this national success.
