With a quiet drive to grow and learn, Bronte entered NYP’s Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management (DHTM) without a specific industry focus – but with an open mind. “I chose DHTM because my father ran a business publishing maps, and I used to follow him as he delivered them to hotels and attractions. I didn’t know much about the industry at 17, but DHTM introduced me to all its pillars – from attractions and hotels to MICE. That’s when I realised, I really enjoyed event planning,” she recalls.

Bronte’s turning point came through specialised MICE modules such as Introduction to MICE and Managing Meetings & Incentives, where she found herself drawn to the fast-paced, behind-the-scenes energy of large-scale events.

"During my three years at NYP, I broke out of my shell and became a confident presenter."

“Mr Kevin Wee encouraged us to drop cue cards and rely on more impactful visuals to guide our presentation flow. It wasn’t easy at first, but with support from my classmates and lots of after-class practice sessions, I gradually improved.”

The safe and supportive environment at NYP allowed Bronte to thrive. As a scholarship recipient, she was driven to excel academically for her family. “The scholarship helped ease the financial burden on my parents, especially when my sister was starting university at the same time. It gave me a sense of responsibility and motivation.”

Her final-year internship at Cityneon, a key player in the MICE industry, proved pivotal. There, she managed entire expo halls during events like Food Hotel Asia 2016, gaining confidence and clarity in her career goals. That experience further affirmed her decision to pursue a Bachelor of Hospitality Business at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).

At SIT, Bronte continued to flourish. She co-founded the SIT PCMA Student Chapter, serving as its Vice-President, and her team clinched first place in the Singapore MICE Challenge, earning the opportunity to present their ideas internationally at the 2020 PCMA Convening Leaders in San Francisco.

“NYP’s DHTM programme provided me with a strong foundation in hospitality and tourism, complemented by core business modules that sharpened my communication, critical thinking and leadership skills – all of which were crucial in my transition to SIT. “

“The industry exposure and hands-on experiences helped me embrace challenges and step out of my comfort zone – lessons that still support me today.”

Today, Bronte is living her dream at The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, where she organises impactful business events with the external affairs team – contributing to nearly 200 events a year.

“As I reflect on my journey from NYP to SIT and into the workforce, I’m grateful I stayed committed to this industry even when graduating during Covid-19 lockdowns. NYP laid the foundation for my passion, and that passion continues to grow with every successful event I help deliver.”

Reflecting on her time at NYP, Bronte shares why she believes DHTM is the right choice for aspiring hospitality professionals:

“DHTM offers more than just academic knowledge. It gives you real-world exposure, a supportive community, and a curriculum that combines hospitality, tourism and business essentials. It also gives you the space to grow, no matter where you’re starting from.”
