What stood out as the most memorable and valuable about your NYP journey?

I really enjoyed working with different individuals through group projects and leadership opportunities, and I also enjoyed conversations with my lecturers. Through these exchanges, I discovered how much stronger we become when we share ideas and support one another, as the right mindset can turn even the toughest challenges into opportunities for growth.

My Final Year project was also very memorable! I had to learn C programming from scratch, all by myself, to build a mobile application to enhance the safety of construction workers. It was admittedly tough at first, but I learnt how to adapt, persevere, and solve real-world problems and these experiences help me feel more confident and prepared for my studies at NUS.

You mentioned your NYP lecturers. How did they guide or inspire you?

Mr. Bobby Liu’s passion for teaching is unmatched. He had a way of making even the toughest learning units feel less intimidating because he was always there to support us. I’ll never forget how he would patiently stay back after hours, even over Zoom, to guide me through difficult concepts.

Ms. Jasmine Ng ensured no student was left behind. From scholarships to internships, she constantly sought out opportunities that she believed would benefit us. In fact, it was her encouragement that led me to apply for the CSIT-Nanyang Scholarship.

I’m deeply grateful to all my lecturers at NYP. Every one of them, in their own way, shaped who I am today. Their belief in me, coupled with their guidance and support, gave me the foundation to pursue my dreams with confidence.

You earned a distinction for your CSIT internship — the highest grade given. What helped you achieve this and continue as a CSIT undergraduate scholar?

True growth starts outside your comfort zone. One of my first tasks was to debug and perform patch diffing on a massive, unfamiliar codebase – something completely new to me. Though daunting at first, I embraced the challenge to learn and adapt. By engaging proactively with my supervisor and colleagues, I was able to build trust, found better solutions, and showed accountability. These experiences strengthened my resilience, adaptability, and determination – which I believe led to the positive results.

Besides exploring areas such as software engineering, data analytics, and cybersecurity, I actively pursued external certifications and engaged in community service initiatives. These experiences fuel my vision to develop solutions that improve lives and address practical challenges using technology and data, and earning the CSIT Undergraduate Scholarship is one of my proudest milestones to date as I am further motivated to realise this vision.

NYP Information Technology students will be recommended to CSIT for the disdistinguished CSIT-Nanyang Scholarship, enhancing their prospects as competitive candidates for this undergraduate award.

Share one piece of advice you’d give to prospective students who want to follow a similar path.

Don’t shy away from difficult learning units or projects. It’s often the unfamiliar ones that shape you the most and spark the biggest breakthroughs.

From internships and mentorships to competitions and projects, make full use of the opportunities at NYP to sharpen your skills and discover your passions and strengths.

Most importantly, always give your best. When you pair effort with the right mindset, the results will follow naturally. Believe in yourself, and you’ll be amazed at how far you can go.
