EAE Tips: AI Robotics (C87)

Curious about intelligent machines? Discover how Artificial Intelligence and robotics come together to create cool, smart, autonomous systems that can sense, decide, and act in the real world. Students from NYP’s Diploma in AI Robotics will acquire strong foundations in AI, robotics, electronics, mechanics, and software. In the course of their studies, they will learn how to design, build and deploy AI‑powered robotic systems for real‑world applications across diverse industries.

Ideal applicant

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Strong interest in creating next-gen machines, artificial intelligence, robotics, intelligent systems, or coding, especially in pursuing a career where AI is applied to physical machines and autonomous systems;
  • Exposure to AI, robotics, coding, or engineering‑related activities, gained in a school setting (e.g. CCA, Applied Learning Programme, coursework, leadership role), or external context (e.g. robotics/AI competitions, coding or AI courses, engineering workshops, online learning or career events);
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills, with a curiosity to explore how intelligent machines can be designed to operate safely and effectively in the real world.

Shortlisted applicants will be assessed as follows:

Interview

If you are shortlisted, you will be invited for an interview to share more about your passion for the course with a panel of interviewers. You will be assessed on your interest, aptitude, as well as your achievements in artificial intelligence, robotics, coding, mechanical design, or other domains. The duration of the individual interview will be about 20 minutes.

Some questions which you may be asked during the interview include:

  • What do you understand about the role of AI in robotics and autonomous systems?
  • How did you develop an interest in AI, robotics, or intelligent technologies?
  • Have you tried building or programming an AI model, robot, or smart system? What did you learn?
  • What motivates you to pursue a career in Artificial Intelligence & Robotics?
  • Have you participated in any competitions, CCAs, or learning activities related to AI, coding or robotics?
Portfolio (Optional)

You should include in your portfolio, any evidence and/or activities (e.g., competitions, hackathons, attendance of relevant courses) that showcase your character and involvement in AI and robotics related activities (e.g., leadership skills, AI skills, coding skills, mechanical design skills).

Examples of what to include in your portfolio:

  • Testimonials
  • Certificates (e.g., academic, achievement and/or personal development)
  • Awards or participation in competitions, or hackathons, at school and/or national level
  • Evidence of robotics/gadgets/apps projects, (e.g., coursework or CCA)
  • Relevant learning journeys or Applied Learning Module (ApLM, formerly known as Advanced Elective Modules [AEM])
  • Evidence of leadership activities or roles
  • Participation in CCAs

Notes:

  1. Candidates with colour vision deficiency may encounter difficulties meeting the course requirements and expectations.
