NYP-Splunk Operational Intelligence Lab
School of Information Technology

Nanyang Polytechnic and Splunk Inc., the leading provider of software for real-time operational intelligence, announced a collaboration to establish  “NYP-Splunk Operational Intelligence Lab (OI Lab)” at NYP on the 22nd March 2013.

Operational intelligence (OI) refers to real-time dynamic, business analytics to deliver visibility and insight into the data, streaming events and business operations. It enables organizations to make better decisions, act on the outcome of analytics, or insights, based on massive streams of live as well as historical data.

NYP is equipping students with the skills necessary to derive valuable real-time data insights and manage big data effectively, especially in mining intelligence from massive streams of machine data. Since April 2012, students at School of Information Technology in courses such as Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Information Security and Specialist Diploma in IT Security have had hands-on training with Splunk software in relevant course modules. On September 2012, NYP and Splunk entered a Professional Education Service Provider agreement to provide official Splunk certifications and courses for the Splunk users. The signing of MOU re-affirmed and deepens the collaboration between the two partners, which was started a year earlier.

The OI Lab aims to establish as a platform for manpower development in big-data and operational intelligence. It will be a focal point in NYP pre-employment and professional education and training, including official Splunk training and certification courses for the industry. It also serves a platform for NYP staff and students to engage Splunk customers and users in developing innovative applications and projects that leverage Splunk software – and conduct research and development in big-data and operational intelligence to develop new and innovative solutions in this area.
