Stepping into my clinical training at the National University Centre of Oral Health for the first time was both thrilling and overwhelming. The responsibility of delivering patient care, coupled with the challenge of applying my theoretical knowledge in real-life situations, felt like a huge step into the unknown.

Thankfully, my clinical supervisors quickly turned what seemed intimidating into an enriching and well-guided journey. Their structured approach, patience, and encouragement created an environment where I could grow with confidence.

During my training, I had the opportunity to perform dental extractions, restorations, and periodontal treatments under their guidance. One moment I will never forget was my first complex periodontal case. My supervisor patiently guided me through every step, while still giving me the space to think and act independently. What started as a nerve wrecking experience became a milestone in my learning.

It wasn’t just about technical skills. My supervisors also taught me the importance of patient communication, encouraging me to take the lead in explaining treatment plans, answering questions, and building trust. Over time, I became more confident in engaging with patients, ensuring they felt heard and cared for.

Perhaps the biggest growth came from stepping out of my comfort zone. Whether it was managing complex cases or making independent decisions under supervision, these moments challenged me and built my confidence. I began to see that learning isn’t just about mastering procedures, it’s about embracing challenges and growing from them.

Looking back, I can say this training has prepared me well for my future career. I feel more competent, independent, and ready to handle the realities of clinical practice.
