Becoming a Confident Nurse through my PRCP Experience
For Nur Qamarina (Class of 2026), her clinical attachment at Ren Ci Hospital was a chance to apply her skills, grow her confidence, and sharpen her competence for a nursing career.

At the start of my Pre-registration Consolidation Practice (PRCP), I was nervous and unsure of myself. Transitioning from the classroom to a real healthcare setting felt overwhelming, and I wasn’t certain if I could meet expectations. But as the weeks went by, the internship became a defining learning experience that strengthened both my clinical abilities and confidence.
Throughout the journey, I was fortunate to be guided by Catherine, a supportive preceptor (experienced professional) who patiently taught and encouraged me. She took time to explain the rationale behind nursing procedures and shared practical tips that helped me improve my skills. Her guidance taught me how to manage my workload, prioritise patient care, and stay calm even during busy shifts, lessons that I still carry with me today.
I also had the chance to apply what I had learnt in school and gain hands-on experience in patient care. For example, I managed to hone key clinical competencies, such as wound dressing and safe medication administration, while also learning the importance of empathy and clear communication in building trust with patients.
There were moments when I felt overwhelmed or made mistakes, but these challenges became valuable learning opportunities. Each experience taught me how to stay calm, think critically, and improve my practice. Over time, I grew more confident in caring for patients independently and became more aware of how my actions could positively impact their recovery.
Looking back, my PRCP was both meaningful and memorable. It helped me bridge the gap between theory and practice, and it prepared me for the realities of working in healthcare. Most importantly, it reminded me why I chose nursing, to care for others with compassion, professionalism, and heart.
The internship not only deepened my knowledge and skills but also gave me a clearer sense of purpose. It’s an experience that shapes you, both as a person and as a nurse.
