Mohammed Aizam Abd Rahman, PSC Scholar from NYP Business Management
One of three polytechnic graduates among 54 recipients of the Public Service Commission (PSC) Scholarship 2024, Aizam has commenced his studies in Liberal Arts at Northwestern University in the US.
Aizam was one of our best students from the Class of 2022, with a perfect 4.0 GPA score and the Mapletree Gold Medal as the top student of his diploma (Diploma in Business Management). He is also the recipient of the Tay Eng Soon Award for the best student coming from ITE in the cohort, and is also a PSC scholar.

But it wasn’t just about doing well for himself: When Aizam was in primary school, his father passed on. He saw how the community rallied to help his family.
And he has done just that. During his time at NYP, Aizam worked on projects with Progress NEST Singapore, the Pathlight School, the Purple Parade, the BEKIND@NYP Willing Hearts Kitchen and Project Aurora. At the height of the pandemic, Aizam ran the COVID-19 Tutoring Support for Students to provide online tutoring.
As president of the NYP Community Service Club, Aizam connected seasoned veterans to less-experienced members, so that members gain advice to be better at planning and executing their own community service projects. Through Aizam’s initiative and leadership, the club saw 11 successful projects giving back to communities in need, such as Silver Generation Night - Senior Befriending and BEKIND@NYP Canned Food Donation Drive.
Aizam also represented NYP in international case competitions, and emerged with remarkable experiences. Amongst his many achievements, he was the regional champion in the 2019 Travel & Tourism Business (TTBiz) Challenge, the first runner-up in the 2020 Bosch & Ricoh (Thailand) Virtual Hackathon, and a National Finalist in the 2020 CL-GCNS Young Leaders Award Competition.
He credited his NYP Personal Mentor, Mr Seah Weixiang, for being his inspiration. “He was like a father figure. He would check on us frequently and push us to strive to do better while keeping our feet on the ground. On days when I struggled, Mr Seah would stay up late to lend an ear.”
Aizam also advises prospective students to talk to friends, seniors, lecturers before figuring out the course they want. He shared why NYP's Diploma in Business Management (DBM) was his first choice:
"I chose NYP after talking to my seniors in ITE who all shared that NYP felt like home to them. But it was also because I really wanted the overseas exposure.
DBM's dual specialisation allowed me to see how disciplines come to life together, and ways to help solve problems and challenges based on best fit, and ensuring that the solutions really help people in the long run."
