Data, decisions, and making a difference

I’ve always been interested in leveraging Artificial Intelligence to build practical and meaningful solutions to help others. Choosing to study Applied AI & Analytics aligned perfectly with my goals.

NYP’s competency-based and industry-focused approach gave me early momentum. I joined the NYP AI Interest Group in Year 1 and eventually became its President, growing the community to over 300 students. Together, we ran AI and machine learning workshops, panel discussions with industry professionals and large-scale hackathons, creating opportunities for students to apply what they were learning in the real-world context.

The most impactful experience I had was a research internship at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. There, I worked on a deep learning model to help predict the progression of liver cancer. While the subject matter was initially unfamiliar, I soon learnt how adaptable AI can be and this gave me an appreciation for its potential in healthcare.

Along the way, I earned the NYP Industry Scholarship, Book Prizes, and won medals in national competitions like the AWS DeepRacer and GovTech Geekout Hackathon. Building on the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification I achieved as part of my diploma curriculum, I went on to complete the AWS Developer Certification on my own time.

Post-graduation, I’ll be furthering my studies at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), pursuing a Bachelor of Computing (Hons) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, as an NTU Scholar. NYP gave me a solid foundation – not just with technical skills, but with the confidence to explore and lead.
