Creating real impact through technology

I chose AI & Data Engineering at NYP because I was curious about how modern technology could be used in practical ways – not just in theory, but in solving real problems. I liked that the course combined both depth and breadth, and gave me the space to explore.

One of the most meaningful projects I worked on was my Final Year Project with Apex Harmony Lodge, a dementia care home. I developed an AI tool that helped nurses quickly access key information about each resident so they could focus more on care and less on paperwork. It was a tight timeline – just 12 weeks – but it taught me how to break down a real-world problem and build a solution from scratch.

My time training for WorldSkills Singapore 2023 in the Mechatronics category was also an incredible experience. I didn’t come from a mechanical engineering background and the learning curve was steep. Training was intense and expectations were high, but the support from NYP coaches kept us going. My teammate and I won a Bronze medal, and I am so proud of our achievement.

As a CSIT-Nanyang Diploma Scholar, I also interned at the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies (CSIT), where I helped to integrate AI tools to enhance internal workflows. It was a good introduction to how things work in a real tech environment, from picking up new tools quickly to communicating recommendations clearly.

At NYP, I’ve learned to adapt, present ideas clearly, and work under pressure – skills as invaluable as technical ones, which would prepare me well for my further studies.

I’ve been accepted into NUS Computer Science and I’ve also applied to other overseas universities. Whichever path I take, I know I’ll want to keep building on what I’ve learnt and use tech to make a difference.
