In addition to this stellar achievement, Rachel was also bestowed with the High Commendation Prize of £500.
Competing against seven other finalists, Team CAKE LLC from DBF secured both the Popularity Award and the Commendation Award at the Huawei Tech4City Competition 2023. The Popularity Award, in particular, serves as a metric of public endorsement, with the team accruing over 2,000 votes on prominent public platforms. The team members, Cheng Jun Wei Ethan, Tan Ya Jing (Chen Yajing) Aleanor, Cassandra Soh, and Lim Dao Jun Kenny, have demonstrated commendable dedication. This recognition in a distinguished competition reflects the rigorous academic and innovative standards of the DBF team, particularly in technological domains where industry powerhouses like Huawei are influential.
A cross faculty team from School of Business Management (SBM) and School of Information Technology (SIT) emerged as Champions for the category of Decentralised Finance at the PolyFinTech 100 API Hackathon 2022 that concluded at 24 Sep 2022. Led by students from the Diploma in Banking and Finance (DBF), the team was awarded $2,500 of prize money. The team comprises DBF students Tan Ya Jing Aleanor, Ho See Yang Lucas, and Jefferson Tan Junzun, and two students from NYP School of IT – Shang Jia Tong and Ng Cai Xian.
A DBF team made a victorious podium finish for the CDL-GCNS Young SDG Leaders Award 2022, finishing 2nd Runner’s Up. For the win, the team was awarded $2,000 of prize money and each member granted the GCNS Youth Alliance memberships.
Jointly organised by City Developments Limited (CDL) and Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS), this annual case competition offers young people a platform to champion sustainable development and SDG integration into business for positive change. After an intensive Phase 1 of the competition comprising a virtual hackathon centred around the theme of the SG Green Plan 2030 and its five pillars, 10 teams were selected into Phase 2. From there they worked with assigned organisations to learn and devise implementable sustainability solutions.
