National Data Viz Video Challenge 2017

“Can solar power be a viable source of energy for Singapore? If yes, how much land is needed?”

These are the questions that our SEG students tackled during the National Data Viz Video Challenge organised by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech).  They beat more than 200 other students from universities, polytechnics, junior colleges and ITEs to clinch the top prize, including prize for the best use of data.

The team was inspired from their Engineering Math assignment about Solar Photovoltaic panels.  They extended their work to analyze half-hourly system demand data from Data.gov.sg, data on solar photovoltaic systems along with information from the National Climate Change Secretariat.  Coming from different disciplines, each member of Team CEJM contributed with skillsets from his diploma to create an impactful visualisation video.
