Predictive Solution for Productivity & Quality Improvement in PCBA Manufacturing
School of Information Technology

The School of Information Technology (SIT) collaborated with Venture Corporation Limited (Venture) to develop the Predictive Solution for Productivity & Quality Improvement in Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) Manufacturing. This involved developing Data Visualisations that enabled engineers to make sense of the vast amounts of data collected during the manufacturing of PCBA. The project assisted engineers in analysing trends and gaining insights into the defects that were found in PCBAs manufactured through their production lines.

Venture is a leading global provider of technology services, products and solutions with established capabilities spanning marketing research, design and development, product and process engineering, design for manufacturability, supply chain management, as well as product refurbishment and technical support across a widely diversified range of high-mix, high-value and complex products.

Venture provided the domain knowledge and datasets that were used by our students to develop relevant and insightful Data Visualisations. Our students had meaningful interactions with the staff from Venture through presenting their work and receiving feedback during periodic progress meetings. The project gave our students a good chance to practice what they learnt in Data Analytics and to explore new Data Visualisation tools and technologies in a real-world scenario.

As Data Analytics is becoming more and more relevant today across a variety of industries, SIT and Venture are exploring the opportunity of incorporating Predictive Analytics Modelling in their mission to detect and reduce defects.
